Shri R. S. Sharma is new CMD NTPC

Shri R.S.Sharma has been appointed Chairman & Managing Director of NTPC Limited w.e.f. May 1, 2008. Having over 37 years of rich experience in Power Sector, Shri Sharma took over as Director (Commercial) NTPC in October, 2004, and has been guiding activities of Business Development Group as well. He has been instrumental in the preparation of guidelines for setting up power exchange in India. He was earlier ED (Commercial) and also looked after the work of Corporate Planning as ED (Corporate Planning) and formulated long term Corporate Plan for NTPC.
Synchronization of 500 MW Unit at NTPC Kahalgaon
The 500 MW unit of NTPC Kahalgaon stage II (3X 500 MW) has been successfully test synchronized with the eastern grid on 17 th March 2008, taking total installed capacity of the station to 1840 MW. With this addition the total installed capacity of NTPC Limited has now risen to 29144 MW including 1754 MW from its Joint Ventures with SAIL and Ratnagiri Gas & Power.
The total planned capacity of the project is 2340 MW with 4 units of 210 MW each in stage I and 3 units of 500MW each in stage II. The power from the project is supplied to the states of Eastern, North-Eastern, Northern and Western Regions. The coal for the station is obtained from Rajmahal Hurra, Chuparbita coalfields of the Eastern Coalfields Ltd. and water is sourced from river Ganges. Recipient of several prestigious Awards in the areas of Safety and Environment, the project has made a distinct place for itself amongst the NTPC stations.
NTPC is the largest power utility of the country and is now diversifying into Hydro Power, Coal Mining, Power Distribution, Power Trading, Power Equipment Manufacturing, EPC etc. NTPC contributes around 29% of country's power generation from 20% of total installed capacity of India. The company is poised to become a 75000 MW Company by 2017.
JV between NTPC and Bharat Forge
NTPC Limited - India's largest power generation company - signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 8th February, 2008 with Bharat Forge Limited (BFL), a leading global supplier of forged and machined - components, to set up a Joint Venture Company (JVC) for manufacture of castings, forgings, fittings and high pressure pipings required for power and other industries and Balance of Plant (BOP) equipment for power plants etc. and also diversify into equipment manufacturing.
The JVC shall be formed with initial equity participation of 49:51 by NTPC and BFL respectively for setting up an equipment manufacturing facility. NTPC, which is globally comparable thermal generation company in terms of size and performance, presently has an installed capacity of 28644 MW (including 1794 MW JVs). It is diversifying into Hydro power, coal mining, power distribution, power trading, power equipment manufacturing, EPC etc.
The MoU was signed by Shri T. Sankaralingam, CMD, NTPC Limited and Shri B. N. Kalyani, CMD, Bharat Forge Limited in New Delhi.
NTPC signs PPA with MP Power Trading Company Ltd. on 28, December 2007

NTPC Limited has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with MP Power Trading Co. Ltd. for supply of power from Mauda Super Thermal Power Project. This project is being set up in the Nagpur District of Maharashtra and shall have an installed capacity of 1000 MW. The power generated from the station shall be supplied to the beneficiaries of the Western Region.
The PPA was signed, by Shri R. S. Sharma, Director (Commercial), NTPC and Shri P. K. Vaishya, Managing Director, MP TRADECO.
NTPC bags four PR awards at PRSI

The 29 th All India Public Relations Conference held on 13 th –15 th December At Channai.
NTPC received four PR awards at the National Convention of Public Relations Society of India held at Chennai. These awards belonged to Event Management Bulletin, Mass Awareness Campaign and House Journal Categories. The awards were received by Shri T. S. Rajpoot, DGM (Corporate Communication), Shri J. P. Sharma, Sr. Manager (PR) of NTPC Corporate Office and Shri Manjul Tewari, Manager (PR) of NTPC's Dadri project.
In the "Event" category Annual General Meeting (AGM) of NTPC has been awarded. In the "Bulletin" category - NTPC's monthly in-house video magazine "Power Vision" was adjudged and awarded. In the Mass Awareness Campaign category, NTPC's efforts about usage of Fly ash a by-product of thermal generation were accepted by jury for the award. The house journal "Roshni" of NTPC Dadri was awarded for its tasteful presentation and contents.
