Digital
Communication Network
NTPC
has successfully completed its phase III VSAT implementation interconnecting
3 Regional Head Quarters at Hyderabad, Bombay and Patna as also
at 4 Power Stations at Simhadiri, Kayamkulam, Faridabad and Tanda.
Plans are afoot for implementation of VSAT at Talcher Thermal Power
Station, Northern Regional Head Quarter and Sipat.
With
the completion of these stations, NTPC now has a fully STAR connected
Network of 1 + 19 Earth Station/ VSATs. Plans are under finalisation
for implementation of Integrated Services Digital Network connectivity
as a back up service at Regional Head Quarters.
VSAT
connectivity has been established and is under operation through
National Information Centre hub interconnecting Ministry of Power
(MoP) Central Electricity Authority with 9 other Public Sector Enterprises
under MoP.
Major
thrust has been made in implementing fixed/mobile Trunk Radio System(TRS)
interconnecting Coal Minies, Power Stations, Merry-Go-Round, Ash
Dyke and Circulating Water Pump House.
First
phase Earth Station upgradation at Korba and Ramagundam is under
contracting. 6 Sites viz. National Capital Power Project, Korba,
Karakka, Unchahar, Ramagundam (2nd stage) and Kawas have implemented
LANs/CAMPUS Wide Networking. Power Stations LANs cater the requirements
varying between 100-300 Nodes/Desktops.
Online
Applications
A
Web based Executive Information System has been developed, implemented
and operationalised covering all strategic areas at corporate level
for strategic planning and decision making. Key Result Areas covered
are; Plant Operations, Finance, Personnel, Projects, Commercial
and General. The system extracts data from any Datagbases, Flat
files and makes it available Online in User friendly Browser based
environment.
Software
implementation moved forward with Anurakshan fully operational along
with Integration to Materials Management System at 8 Thermal Power
Projects and 2 Gas Based Projects.
Integrated
Commercial Management System with reference to billing/revenue collection
& monitoring at Regional Offices and at Corporate Centre has
now been implemented at Eastern, Western, Southern Regions and at
Corporate Centre.
IT
infrastructure planning process for development and implementation
of solutions (covering Hardware, Software and Application Portfolios)
completed for 12 stations. Three Year Rolling Plan has been finalised
and under implementation by Sites.
With
the onset of Digital Economy, NTPC is undertaking selection of appropriate
Solutions and Web Enabled Applications including Secured IT infrastructure
for implementation in future of E-Business.
